What Does a Boiler Service Include?

Keystone London engineer carrying out a boiler service

A boiler service is a detailed inspection of your boiler and its operation. Regular servicing helps keep the appliance properly maintained, check that it is operating safely and identify signs of wear or developing faults.

Our Gas Safe registered engineers carry out the appropriate checks for your boiler and heating system, with any issues found explained clearly before further work is recommended.

A typical boiler service may include:

  • Visual inspection of the boiler and surrounding installation
  • Boiler controls and safety devices checked
  • Flue and combustion checks where applicable
  • Inspection of relevant internal components
  • Checks for leaks, corrosion or signs of wear
  • Boiler pressure and operation checked
  • Condensate system checked where applicable
  • Cleaning of relevant components where required
  • Boiler tested after servicing

If we identify a fault or component that may require attention, we'll explain what we've found and advise on the appropriate next step.

Why Is Regular Boiler Servicing Important?

Regular boiler servicing helps keep your appliance properly maintained and gives an engineer an opportunity to check its operation and identify developing problems.

1

Safety Checks

A boiler service includes checks to help confirm the appliance is operating safely and identify issues that may require attention.

2

Identify Problems Early

Signs of wear or developing faults may be identified before they lead to more disruptive boiler problems.

3

Maintain Performance

Routine servicing helps keep the boiler properly maintained and provides an opportunity to check how it is operating.

4

Protect Your Warranty

Many boiler manufacturers require regular servicing as part of their warranty conditions, so it's important to check the requirements for your model.

When Should You Book a Boiler Service?

Annual servicing helps keep your boiler properly maintained and provides an opportunity to identify developing problems.

While once a year is a common servicing schedule, there are other situations where arranging an inspection may be worthwhile.

Your Annual Service Is Due

If your boiler hasn't been serviced within the last year, it may be time to arrange its next routine service.

Before the Colder Months

Arranging servicing before heavier winter use can help identify developing issues before your heating is needed most.

You've Moved Into a Property

If you don't know when the boiler was last serviced, an inspection can help establish its current condition.

You're a Landlord

Regular servicing can help keep the boiler properly maintained alongside the gas safety requirements that apply to rental properties.

Boiler Repairs in London

No Heating? No Hot Water? Boiler Showing a Fault?

Boiler problems rarely happen at a convenient time.

You might wake up without hot water, notice your boiler pressure dropping, discover water underneath the unit or suddenly see an unfamiliar fault code.

Our engineers provide professional boiler fault diagnosis and repairs throughout London, identifying the cause of the problem rather than simply treating the symptom.

Where possible, we'll repair the boiler during the initial visit. If a replacement component is required, we'll explain what's needed and the associated cost before further work begins.

What's Wrong With Your Boiler?

Boiler Losing Pressure

Having to regularly top up your boiler? Repeated pressure loss can indicate a leak, expansion vessel problem or another system fault.

Boiler Pressure Too High

Pressure climbing towards the red zone can indicate an issue with the filling loop, expansion vessel or heating system.

Boiler Leaking

Water around your boiler should always be investigated. The cause can range from a loose connection to an internal component failure.

Boiler Won't Ignite

If your boiler repeatedly attempts to start but fails, there may be an ignition, gas supply or component problem.

No Heating or Hot Water

A loss of heating or hot water can have several causes, from simple pressure problems to faulty boiler components.

Frequently asked questions

If you can't find the answer to your question here, please don't hesitate to contact us for further assistance.

A standard Keystone London boiler service costs £120 + VAT. A combined boiler service and Gas Safety Certificate costs £195 + VAT.

Most boilers should be serviced once every 12 months. Annual servicing helps maintain safe operation, identify developing faults and may be required to maintain the manufacturer's warranty.

Get in Touch

Common warning signs include pressure repeatedly dropping or rising, unusual noises, intermittent hot water, radiators failing to heat properly, leaks, fault codes and the boiler repeatedly switching itself off.

A boiler service usually takes 40 minutes to an hour, depending on if the boiler has been regularly maintained—if not, it may take longer.

It's generally not recommended, as boilers are complex and potentially dangerous systems. It's best to leave repairs to qualified professionals. Problems such as electrocution, gas leaks and water leaks could occur should the boiler be repaired incorrectly.

Boiler repairs can be completed within 15 minutes, however more complicated fixes can take up to 3-4 hours.

Turn off the boiler and water supply, and contact a qualified engineer immediately to assess and repair the issue. We may suggest opening the taps and opening the drain valve if there is one outside, or using a hose pipe if there is one internally on a radiator.

Regular maintenance, such as annual servicing, can help prevent many common boiler issues. It is advised to bleed radiators when required and ensure you have repressured the boiler if you have a sealed system. You can check for a pressure gauge on the boiler.

Check for obvious issues like power supply and thermostat settings. Ensure the gas supply is turned on and check for low water pressure within the boiler if you have a sealed system. If you can't identify the problem, contact a professional for diagnosis and repair.

It depends on the extent of the damage and the age of the boiler. We usually suggest that a boiler 10 years or older that requires a repair of more than £300.00, is beyond economical repair.

We work with the major boiler manufacturers commonly installed in UK homes, including Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Ideal, Baxi, Viessmann, Glow-worm, Alpha and others.
